In aid of ‘Eating Disorder Awareness Week’ we are delighted to be able to work with and support BEAT providing helplines, online support and a network of UK-wide self-help groups to help adults and young people in the UK beat their eating disorders..
Eating Disorder Awareness Week runs from 23 February to 1 March 2015.
BEAT is the UK’s only nationwide organisation supporting people affected by eating disorders, their family members and friends, and campaigning on their behalf.
How many people in the UK have an eating disorder?
Some figures suggest that 1.6 million people in the UK are affected by an eating disorder, of which around 11% are male. 6.4% of adults displayed signs of an eating disorder (Adult Psychiatric Morbidity Survey, 2007).
It is estimated that of those with eating disorders: 10% of sufferers are anorexic, 40% are bulimic, and the rest fall into the EDNOS category, including those with binge eating disorder.
